Dawn to Dusk August 27/28th 2011
« on: July 16, 2011, 07:05:45 PM »

Hi guys
Had a thought...

How would you folks like to have a weekend flying on a 4,500 acre private mountain area in South West Wales on the weekend of 27/28th August 2011 ?

The terrain is stunning, the area huge, camping is free, fast food wagons, beer tent, BBQ etc

What's the catch, well not much really, at the same venue and same time there's an off-road motorcycle event called the "Dawn to Dusk" enduro, we are invited along so we can hopefully catch some aerial footage of the action (I know the owner and organiser of the event personally)

I spoke to the guy this morning and he's up for it

http://www.dawntoduskenduro.co.uk/dawn-to-dusk-rides-again/

This event is on my doorstep and I attend every year to cheer along some of my riding buddies and take photos/video etc, this year I was hoping to be ready enough with my quad and fpv kit but I'm nowhere near experienced enough yet

The event has three main races, the first is the 24hr enduro which starts on the Saturday evening at 7pm, the competitors will race through the night and following day until 7pm Sunday, at 7am Sunday they are joined on the circuit by the 12hr competitors and then at 1pm by the 6hr riders
The course itself is usually a 15 mile lap, mostly amongst woodland and all set in the mountains

There's food stands there and in emergencies my gaff is only a few miles away
It would be great to get a combination of higher altitude footage as well as closer in stuff by quad/tricopter with GoPro etc

So, anyone up for that ?

Venue is around here:

Here's a pic of a bit of the area I took whilst up there on my bike a few years back

I've had the same Skywalker for FPV for two years now. It's had 6 new wings, 3 new canopies and 2 new fuselages.

Here's a bigger picture of the area I live in, just incase anyone gets bored with the event or wants to spend more time over here

And here's a pic of me above the clouds, see who needs an airplane to get above them :)

No fees or tickets involved
The organiser would be pleased to get some useable video footage from us

Just liase with me and we can all hook up together for the weekend

Well I say "all" but there doesn't seem to be a great deal of interest yet ?

Sounds interesting but I will have only just got back from Afghanistan the day before and recovering.
The BMFA Nationals are also that weekend at Barkston Heath so most modellers will be going to that I assume.
Hope you get some interest though.

Only just saw that, what a fabulous location, if the wind was right I reckon you could easily soar from dawn to dusk on that ridge. If it were not for the Nationals I certainly would have been interested!

i am def trying to sort it so i can come down...

its a long way from halifax w.yorks !!!
so i am really dependent on my mate who is getting into flying and fpv also comming,
that way we split the petrol costs (that are getting a joke now!)

sounds like it will be a good week end :) and i really hope we can make it..

im also trying to coax another fellow fpv'r i have just met into comming but he's not sure yet with work etc..

so that could be 3 and two of our girlfriends as ground support

I`d love too, but you need someone with a Quad or tri, down where you are. Ill put a link up on rcg in the uk section, that might generate some more interest ?
