FPV Glider Tow
« on: October 20, 2011, 10:08:39 PM »

So guys, anybody want to try a FPV glider tow? No Gyros and it is pretty obvious that multis can't do this (Though i would be happy to be proved wrong)
I will have a go at some point when I find another local FPVer but I reckon a few could try this.
I found a Glider tow latch you can make from lego too :) Have a look around on the net.
Look forward to seeing some videos :)

I wonder if a multicopter could lift a glider straight up in the air by it's tail and just drop it ?

My multi is a bag of poo Xaircraft
About as stable as an egg on a spoon, vibrations upset the AHRS when the motors get spinning fast enough to get some height

I'm gona convert it back to FPV set-up and crash it til it dies

I beleive the Fox glider weighs it at over 1.1kg, so you'd need a pretty strong quad to take that up high enough to drop it :)

I think it'd be more fun trying to take it DOWN with your catapult  ^-^

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof was to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

the quad I'll be using is 900g with LiPo and FPV gear (not all attached yet, just threw it all on the scales). I put that it weighs 2kg on the ecalc and it says I can hover at 70% throttle, so I guess it's possible to take up a bixler or something but without stabilisation for my quad (i missed my chance for a CC last night) I'd be very nervous taking a payload. Plus we'd have to figure out a release mechanism.
