Another local meet in Herts
« on: January 06, 2012, 06:03:30 PM »

It was fun last time, so let's try again...
If the weather's half good on Sunday I'll be flying from the Secret Location from about 11:00.
PM me if you've got something (anything!) to fly and would like to come along.

Well it was really nice to meet up with a couple of fellow forumites.  Today I met Charlie and Andy in Herts, just over an hours drive from home...

The level of fun was high and I think Charlie and Andy completed a couple of firsts for them, a roll with the wing and a loop with the Axeon (sp?).  There was also a couple of challenges, namely the tree run of death and some formation flying with very little video interference considering it was two planes on 5.8GHz.

It was early on with the tree of death run that I had a mishap with the Bixler and it went in.  Damage fairly extensive though all fixable.

After an issue with the motor mounting bolts it kissed the dirt and resulted in a long walk of shame.  When I got there there was a fizzing noise, expecting the lipos to be on fire, I immediately thought about my new DragonOSD I had on board.... turns out it was the ESC just about to burn through the fus... stunk the car out on the way home!

I have since tested a different ESC and all is OK!  >:( I think I will replace the motor and ESC to be on the safe side...

Thanks for day out chaps :)

Gents,

sorry I missed this meet but on night shifts at the moment.

As you may see from a recent post I'm actually ready to fly at last  :D so hoping to get to Nomansland on Tuesday if anyone else will be around??

Was great to see two wings flying (little and large), that little one is a masterpiece and looks great fun to fly.

I felt very pedestrian in comparison with my Axion so I'm hoping to do some Stryker testing POV next week. Assuming I can cope with it then we'll have height, range, and speed challenges.

Andy took the vids recorded on my grabber home with him on a stick, so it'll be interesting to see what he turns them out into...

We're definately on course to getting (laser) guns fitted. I reckon Andy's lost a few lives already.

Next meet will be at a different venue: Launch Zone Beta.

Looking forward to seeing the video...

The Bixler is nearly all glued up, just the aileron and rudder to refit and a replacement motor to source.  I went a bit overboard with the Gorilla Glue for the dowl I fitted to mount a new motor off.... it was like an overflowing muffin, I have since scrapped it off and it is just as big again LOL!

Likewise. Great fun.  ;D  I love your little wing. Got me thinking about a miniature version of Tensor.

Heres a composite of the videos from the day.

Herts FPV Meet some highlights. Small | Large

Done in a bit of a rush so I think I mauy have ruined some quality so I will put the vids its made of up, which are hopefully unadulterated including the crash in allit glory( If you watch the video There was a warning on your OSD at exactly the same place on each run. I think you lost video when you went behind the tree!)

Hope to see you again soon.  :P Glad The Bixler lives to fly again.  :)

regards
Andy

That helps a lot Andy - the top right percentage is the RSSI, it loses radio signal behind the tree! I think I need to do a range check on the receiver.

Actually, I scratch that.. If the BEC on the etc fried then that would explain the RSSI and loss of control with 20amp draw.

Hi,
I'm aiming to come over to Nomansland to try my FPV hat (and look as silly as Andy...).
Also the possibly the Stryker plane.
Maybe you would let me know what time.
