Good stuff, how's the stryker to fly? Does it handle the wind well?

Brucey,
Stryker flies good so far...
Fitting the FPV gear (including new OSD) was fine once I'd figured out the best positions for everything.
Much faster than I'm used to, and flying downwind is soon at limit of my tested range.
Rolls and loops are as fast as you like, and clean and easy.
Launches need care coz I don't like the sight of blood, even other peoples.
My favorite to date is the: grip portside wing with left hand, 2/3 power, left arm across my front, discus method.
Need a neck strap on the TX.
Lands real slow.
Wind?    What wind?
That's about all I've tried so far.

It's probably too fast for a BOF like me and will catch me out before very long.
Hope there will be some spectators when it does!

Rgds,

CC

Hi guys,

Well my self built foamy wing was totalled after passing the 'tree of death', giving me a nice long walk to recover it.  Nevermind today i ordered a ms swift 2 made of un-crashable epp.
I should get it tomorrow and hopefully have it fitted out in time for the weekend, although it is supposed to have a build time of around two hours, with me this usually translates into a week lol

Nice flying by the way Charlie in that there Styker !  :)
It was going like it was on rails !  :D

Cheers Mike

Sorry to hear it Mike, I guess they don't call it the tree of death for nothing!

I'm starting to think I need something to fly when its a bit windier. My easy glider is great for pottering around in light winds, but tends to glide backwards when the winds pick up.

The stryker sounds interesting or maybe I should get a wing, hmm...

hey micka205 how much did you py for your swift2? i thinking of getting another they handel well in high wind. i use x2 3c 1000mah in parralel  up front and to get the cg right,  im going to use rite weave and lam cover to this one make it even stronger  and make my winglets out of correx board as the foam is that thin, it warps

Hi Marka 1236,

Well i paid £33.95 for the plain white one, i wanted it white to be stealthly  :)
Also i don't have to worry about messing up the nice painted top side  :)
Below are the pictures of the build so far, it must be the quickest built model i have ever made, it took ME around 1 day to get to the stage i could nearly take it out for its maiden LOS.  I haven't made a compartment for the lipo yet, i intend to strap it on top to made sure the cog is ok first.  I was pleasantly surprised to be able to get some distance between the rx and the vtx on this small wing without upsetting the cog.

i made a small attempt of moving the motor slightly more forward and this meant cutting a little of the trailing edge to accomodate my 8x4 apc prop, and i used some D section carbon rod on the leading edge as was recommended by the retailer and it has made it all pretty tough and the wing more rigid, good stuff !

Swift 2 ( plain white )
Emax 2822 with prop saver and 8x4 apc prop
Hobbywing 12a esc
brc 9g servo 1.5 kg at 6v
my own bought snakes and control horns
800mah to 1000mah 3s lipo
wdr700 cam
2.4ghz fatshark vtx
Fatshark goggles
Futaba 7cap 35mhz, Futaba rx
AUW around 373 g (13.1oz)

Can't wait to fit a servo with 180 degree pan, i think it looks so cool to to be able to pan smoothly to the side and back of the wing whilst flying, and i could put it on the rudder stick as well.  Still a little more practice flying fpv will be in order before i get to that stage.

Will maiden it LOS when the winds die down a little, in the meantime i want to research if the fy-31ap will made this little wing more stable and which osd road to go down, decisions decisions.... :-\

How much weight would that laminate add to the swift 2 by the way ?

Cheers Michael

well done man looking good so far, the lam should not add much weight at all, It will stop water getting into the foam when landing and turning into a sponge,   you will not need no fy-30 to keep it stable in fpv mode, it flys like its on rails it will just add unneeded weight     i fly the swift 2 better in fpv mode that is because i dont fly to good los anyways and i find it hard to see in the air because of its size and speed.   you cant go wrong putting it together so i would maiden it fpv if i was you  so much easyer to fly fpv.     i want to put a osd in my swift too ,you want a small osd  for this wing i would go for the blackstork 2 osd its meant to be the smallest osd out, and its easy to hook up and use    ps where did you buy it from

ps i would up your lipo mah or you will be lucky to get 5min flight times, the best way to fly the swift 2 is to use full power as it loses speed fast when gliding and likes to stall, im using 2 1000mah and a 360mah for vtx getting about 7 min flights

I bought it from Robotbirds, good fast delivery, if you order it in the morning for next day :)

I found when flying my scratchbuild 32" swift like Kesl, (copy of a swift) i got pretty long flying times around 10-15 mins on a 3s 800mah or 1000mah considering i am using the one battery for everything.  I think my kind of flying is to make the battery last as long as possible, this will be made easier when i get my osd.

About the osd, the ones i had in mind are either the EZOSD with gps or the hornet osd with gps.  The hornet is the replacement for the Ap117.

I just don't know if the EZOSD screen is a little too basic, i really wanted the typical jet fighter type HUD with an artificial horizon.  :D

Ideally it would be great if you could pick and choose which items you wanted on the screen.
Any developers listening  :) they would definetly get my business  :)

The EZOSD is set as is, but the hornets advantage for me is it gives you a choice of four different screens.
So its tricky. :-\

The EZ brands advantage is the EZOSD would be plug and play with my Fatshark Vtx though, and if i decided on getting a EZUHF, or/and an antenna tracker that would also be very compatible as i understand it

Cheers Michael
