Diamond 2500
« on: February 15, 2012, 11:47:57 AM »

Hi All I'm a complete newbie to RC planes but after reading various post from different sites have made my mind up to buy a Diamond 2500

But I need some advice, I've read that maybe the sevo's will need to be quickly replaced as the ones that come with the plane are a bit fragile also the Tx maybe needs to be changed.

So can anyone suggest a nice future proof Tx and a full set of servos,
One day way way in the future I'd like a Jet plane so i need to make sure my Tx is up to it.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Not sure about a Tx but if I were you I'd get a trainer plane first, something like a Bixler or an Easy Star before you try a big glider like that - they're easily repaired when you crash (and you will!) and will get you started in RC with far less frustration and cost.

All the best

Hi Hobby, welcome to FPVUK. A good future proof tx would be a Futaba 9 or a 7. They should keep most people in channels unless you go down the full house glided setup with too many toys :)

I've had the same Skywalker for FPV for two years now. It's had 6 new wings, 3 new canopies and 2 new fuselages.

Right 1st thing learn to fly...

Recommend a WoT 4 Foamy learn to fly it....  make sure you can do all the basic stuff...  that means take off/land/circuits both ways/ figure 8's understand the stall points on planes and loops and rolls.  You must really learn this stuff 1st Line of Sight flying...

The Diamond glider I have one.. not for a beginner unless you have a mate who will buddy lead you and teach you to fly it.

I can fly and mine already has a bent wing spar lmao :)

transmiter the Futaba 9cap/7cap/ the 10c on 35mhz if you can find one

Woah dude not so fast :) Learn to fly on something a little cheaper first.

I suggest something like the V2 Trainer from flying wings. Nice easy to fly and it's tough and won't break.

The Diamond 2500 looks like a fine model but you should treat it as something to aspire to flying. If you even attempt to fly it as a complete newbie you will reduce it to pieces of broken foam in less time than it is taking to write this reply. You will then have lost a lot of money and become frustrated and disheartened. Any time a newbie tells me they are going to buy a slick looking model and learn to fly with it I advise them to buy also a large black plastic bag.
Take the advice of the guys here and start with a trainer, then work up to the Diamond as maybe a second or better still a third model. You will not regret this approach but you will regret starting with a performance model like the Diamond.

Wot 4 as first plane, right...
I am with the Ez* option. Far easier to fly than my Wot 4.

TX wise, go for a Futaba 7 or 9. Or a JR, just make its 35MHZ.

For what? Plane or TX.

For a TX, ebay is your friend. New, they are several hundred pounds.
Have you picked a trainer, does your local model shop sell it? Or you can get the Bixler online.

Got my fox from them, postage could of been faster, but thats when comparing to GC. It was very reasonable and I will probably buy from them again.

I have bought from the Servo shop and Giant cod. Both OK in my book.
As for a trainer, an Easystar MK1 if you can get one or clone such as a Bixler, Sky surfer. the Bix or SS are good FPV platforms. Loads of space.
But buy a kit. Building will give you the experience that you will need for the future.
